2015 Fixed Departure Kashmir Photography Tour

Covering the national capital Delhi where in we will do some street photography at Chadni chowk, lal quila and also try our hands on long exposure before heading to Leh. This photography expedition will take you to the unexplored destinations in Kashmir India for photography while teaching you the aspect of travel photography.

Day 1: Arive Delhi

Day 2: Delhi to Leh
Reach Leh by Indian Airlines or Jet Airways flights. Leh is main Centre of Ladakh. With the inhabitants of 50,000, Leh is located in small valley just the north of Indus valley. The tourists are advised to take complete rest for the proper acclimatization to the high altitude atmosphere.

Day 3: Leh to Hemis Monastery for the festival (48 km)
Just after the breakfast, the group will visit the Hemis monastery for the festival and about 3 p.m. in the afternoon the group will move back to Leh and on the way, the group will visit two more famous monasteries i.e Shey and Thiksey.

Day 4: Leh to Lamayuru (124 kms)
The whole is dedicate to for the local sightseeing Lamayuru: After exploring villages around the area, it comes as a surprise to find that Lamayuru is a scruffy little place. The gompa is the completely overshadowed and most famous spectacular monastery in Ladakh. On the way the group can also visit the Alchi and Rizong monasteries. Alchi monastery is famous gompa for the 1000-year old wall painting, which make a visit more than worthwhile. Rizong monastery about the six kms along a steepish, rocky track from the main road is the starts of the area with the nunnery of Julochen and the gompa of Rizong belonging to the Gelukpa factions.

Day 5: Local Sight seeing, Leh Bazaar, Leh Palace and Sankar gompa
The whole day is dedicated to the shopping and to discover some interesting things about Ladakhi art and cultural by the visiting the Tibetan refugees camp Choklamsar, Library and Ecological Development etc. The women's vegetable market in the afternoon and some interesting place to visit. And the evening the Sankar monastery.

Leh Gompa:
It is situated above the Leh Palace and was built in 1430. It contains a 13.7 metres high statue of the Buddha which the Ladakhi call Chamba. According to the Lamas this splendid statue is the future Buddha. A butter burns day and night in front of this statue.

Sankar Gompa:
Just 3 kms from Leh is this monastery that has a formidable collection of miniature of pure gold and a number of exciting painting. It is well lit and may be visited in the evening as well.

Day 6: Leh to kargil
We will leave early morning and make our way through panoramic villages and reach Sonmarg which is 2,700 meters high in time for lunch. Along the way we will stop at ethnic Pushtan villages (Afghani Tribe) to photograph. Kargil should be reached late afternoon after this 7 hour ride through the high mountain ranges.

Day 7: kargil Dha Hanu kargil
We will have a full day photoshoot in the villages of Dha and Hanna. Down the Indus, between Khaltse and the Shyok – Indus confluence, live a people known as Dropk-Pa, Buddhists in name, but racially and culturally distinct from the rest of the Ladakhis. This is a community of no more than one thousand, their features are pure Indo-Aryan, and they appear to have preserved their racial purity down through the centuries. These people are tall, handsome, friendly and extremely photogenic. We will be camping this evening once again.

Day 8: kargil to srinagar
Today we will photograph the architecturally significant mosques and surrounding street scenes. The Hazratbal mosque is located in a village of the same name on the banks of the Dal. Its pristine white marble elegance is reflected in the waters of the lake. Hazratbal's special significance is derived from the fact that it houses a hair of the prophet Muhammad. Hazratbal is remarkable for being the only domed mosque in Srinagar; the others having distinct pagoda like roofs. The shrine – mosque complex is situated on the western shore of the Dal Lake opposite Nishat Bagh and commands a grand view of the lake and the mountain beyond.

The Hari Parbath fort on Sharika hill was constructed in the 18th century by Atta Mohammed Khan. The original temple atop the Shankaracharya hill is believed to have been built by Ashoka’s son Jaluka around 200 BC, on the site of the Takht-i-Suleiman or the throne of Solomon.

Day 09 : Srinagar
We will have a very early morning Shikara ride on Dal Lake. The lake is dotted with hundreds of houseboats lined-up one after the other. Char Chinar, Nehru Park are picnic spots within the lake. We will photograph the floating food markets, flower markets and small boats coming to do commerce.

In the afternoon we will tour and shoot the old city of Srinagar . Of special interest is the Khanqah of Shah Hamadan situated on the banks of the river Jhelum, between the third and fourth bridge. It is the first mosque ever built in Srinagar.

The Jama Masjid at Nowhatta, in the heart of the old city, is the other important mosque in Srinagar at which thousands of people congregate for the Friday prayers. Of imposing proportions, the mosque is built around a courtyard and is supported by 370 wooden pillars. We will walk the streets of this ancient Islamic inspired city and concentrate on the bazaar area photographing primitive Kashmiri craftsmen as they create handicrafts.

Day 10 : Srinagar
In the morning we will shoot the Mughal gardens. Nishat, the Garden of Bliss built on Dal Lake by Empress Noor Jehan’s is laid over seven terraces and an architectural masterpiece These gardens are perfect examples of the Mugal style with terraced lawns, evergreen cypress trees, flowering bushes and fruit trees.

In the afternoon we will drive to Taelbal which is 17 km from Srinagar and we will photograph the villagers as they conduct their daily lives. A rivulet runs through the village and there are farms on both sides. The water is emerald blue and seems unreal. The locals engage in net fishing and we will photograph the fisherman at work. Afterwards we will walk through the village, where we will see the villagers planting rice and working the lush fields.

Day 11 : Srinagar
Arts and crafts are an integral part of life in Kashmir. We will photograph the shawl-makers, carpet and cloth weavers , potters and calligraphers. In downtown Srinagar where many craftsmen live, we will photograph Kashmiris hunched over hookahs or Kangri. We will shoot them as they are engaged in tracing or hand paintings birds, fruits, flowers and tree branches. Pashmina shawls or even pashmina sarees that were once prized heirloom as dowry gifts amongst affluent Kashmiris will be photographed

In the evening, we will have a Sufi concert on the houseboat.

Day 12 : Srinagar to Aru
After breakfast check out from houseboat and proceed to Aru via pahalgam.

Location: 107 km From Srinagar Via Pahalgam (11 km), Kashmir Region.
Conifer spread mountains, snow covered peaks with golden sun rays against the blue sky, and the shaded valley of the Lidder river form the identity of Aru. A popular hill station in the trans-Himalayan region, Aru is basically a vast grassland that is surrounded by a narrow valley or ravine on one side. The blooming nature amidst cool climate makes the still and serene Aru one of the most beautiful hill resort of Kashmir. Like all other hilly areas of J&K, Aru also offers you a wonderful view of water reserviors and mountains. In Aru, the most beautiful part lies with the small village houses made of wood and stone. Aru is the perfect destination to take a break form the pollution, dust and stress of city life at an altitude of 2708 metres.

Day 13: ARU
Full day photography tour in Aru.

The 24 km long trekking route to the Kolahoi glacier (the head of the Lidder Valley) at an altitude of 3,200 metres is a major attraction at Aru. Lidderwat meadow is another popular track for trekking. While trekking one can have the view of this stunning place and even the romantic sunset from a high hill.

Overa Aru Biosphere Reserve is a nice place to hang out to spot some rare and endangered animals. This Biosphere Reserve is surrounded by thick green forest, consisting Conifers, Abies pindrow, Cedrus deodara, Pinus griffithii, Aesculus indica, etc. along with several shrubs and herbs. The reserve inhabits endangered species of animals such as Musk Deer, Leopard, Hangul, Snow Cock, Monal, Brown bear, Koklas, Hare, Serow, Rhesus Macaque, Grey Langur, Himalayan Mouse, etc.

Day 14 : Aru - Srinagar airport
After breakfast proceed to Srinagar to take a flight for Delhi.
